Primary Moments

THE FIRST VISION
my week to teach was on the first vision.
rather than share the story,
our lesson suggested showing the video
i was ecstatic
the portrayal
the setting
the music
would be a powerful presentation
in which the spirit could be felt
as we gathered around,
the class was silent
my mind takes to thought
are they getting it?
one little girl said
"i didn't know Joseph has (had) blonde hair
i thought it was brown...he's cute...hey guess what?
my brothers are kind of twins...you know in how they are like cute boys"
refocus the class
we are near the sacred grove
when a someone touches the computer
"where did the sacred grove go?" i panic,
"what happened and how do i get it back?"
i ask questions
while fiddling around with a variety of buttons
"joseph and his family worked very hard. they all lived on..."
"AN ISLAND" shouts one little girl.
finally, i have the video to where joseph kneels,
the music plays "oh how lovely was the morning."
after the presentation
children were invited to write or draw what they were feeling
as the children shared their childlike images
i was touched
as i read their words in their childlike spelling
i melted
"they got it!"
i asked them if i had permission
to make a copy of their work
all were excited and proud.
it was time for the closing prayer,
"Dear Heavenly Father... please bless the superbowl
that wins can be happy and that we can have a good time..."
Amen
  *interesting family moment
parents and siblings come to watch their two sons coach
one son, head coach of the 49er's
one son, head coach of the ravens
that doesn't happen very often

TELL THEM YOU LOVE THEM
last week
the question was posed
"when was the last time you told your parents you loved them?"
the children yelped,
"last night, this morning, just a minute ago"
and
"i do it all the time."
there was immediate praise.
the following question
"when was the last time you said i love you to your brothers and sisters?'
before the question was even finished...a young boy piped up and in
a "roll your eyes, condescending kind of tone" said
"that'll never happen...that is so EIGHTIES"
i laughed and pondered
"what does you know about the eightities? you were born in  2007"

HEAVENLY FATHER

there has been a slight change
in my primary calling
i have moved from
the fourth grade children
to the
first grade children
i had forgotten their pure innocence

in the middle of the lesson
one of the little darlings
raised her hand
"who invented heavenly father"
the other teacher paused
then replied
"just like we will have opportunities
to become gods and goddesses
i am sure that heavinly father
had a heavenly father"
"and who invented that heavenly father?"
kind of deep for a 6 year old

then came the ctr shield to color
one of the boys
exclaimed
"coloring ! i love to color ! it is one of my
favorite hobbits !"
i love my primary class
